The play 5 2nd gen seems to have reduced power consumption to 1w when in idle that is good but the cost is too high.

It uses 3 5 4w in standby which is relatively high if you only use your sonos every now and then.
The table below describes watts w consumed by each sonos product while in idle mode.
In germany where 1 kwh is about 0 30 euro cent this then means about 70 euro about 100 just to maintain an idle system.

Sonos devices on average consume about 5 watts each if idle.
How is denon doing good when all of their units consume as much or more than every new generation sonos device with the exception of the beam which consumes up to 0 5 w more.
Dug out my kill a watt ez and my gen 1 play 5 these numbers are at 120 volts.
When playing music it goes up to 35 40 watts which doesn t seem too high but the idle power consumption is shocking.

We didn t have a sonos one for this particular test but it s likely to have similar power use to the sonos play 1.
Sonos claim around 6 watts during standby here that s a massive difference.
And if not how much power is the play 5 likely to consume when there s no audio being output.

Anyway i got the old wattage meter out and did a test and was a bit shocked to find that during idle mode standby the zp120 consumes 25 watts.
3 8watts with microphone on.
Not completely powered off will my sonos play 5 eventually go into sleep mode or not.

Morning all like a lot of us i m going through that exercise of upgrading all our lights from the oddball collection to 100 led and it caused me to wander what my various sonos boxes consume on standby and in operation.
100 hours at 80 volume.
Over a year this is about 25x24hx365 219 kwh.
Btw as electronic engineer i can say that adding the wol function is very easy and making it configurable by user just enlarge the audience without sacrifice usability in other use cases.
Sonos product 230v eu play 1 3 8 watts one microphone on up to 4 1 watts play 5 gen2 2 2 watts beam microphone on up to 5 5 watts playbase 3 0.
Having 5 sonos devices around this means 25 watts on average idle consumption.
